Office365, particularly Exchange Online has been around for several years. It’s easy to take it for granted as more and more apps move to the cloud and Microsoft offerings increase. But really, how would we live without it? No, I’m not going to get all philosophical – I’m looking at it from the perspective of Professional Services Lead at Leaf. How would I get through my day without it?
Running the service desk and looking after a team of highly skilled engineers is a great job and thanks to Office365 I can pretty much do it from anywhere. This is vital to ensure I can get the right people assigned to the right service requests, whether I’m in the office or onsite with another customer. Email on the go is nothing new, but Office365 brings another dimension of functionality. From my smartphone or tablet I and the whole team have access to a SharePoint site which contains all the relevant information to help support our clients. This means that we can resolve issues on the go without always having to reference notes stored on a physical server in the office.
Using Skype for Business means I can make and receive calls anywhere I have a WiFi connection. I have access to instant messaging which allows me to communicate with other team members whilst also being on the phone. The presence feature in Skype for Business is invauable as it lets you see in real time who is busy, out of the office or otherwise engaged.
Now, I know a lot of people will say “It’s not rocket science,” but it doesn’t need to be. The time savings it provides throughout a working day are reward enough.
